Can customers change their delivery/pickup selection after placing an order?
Yes, customers can modify their delivery or pickup date and time selection directly from their order confirmation and status pages.
The Bird Pickup & Delivery app includes an order editing feature that empowers customers to adjust their delivery or pickup slot after completing their purchase. This prevents the need to cancel and reorder if scheduling changes are needed.
How to enable order editing:
First, ensure widget placement is configured:
- Navigate to Bird Settings > Widget Placements
- Install the Thank You page widget
Then enable order editing functionality:
- Go to Bird Settings > Order Management
- Scroll to the Date/Time Editing section
- Turn on "Allow user to edit date and time"
Once enabled, customers will see an edit button on their order confirmation and order status pages. This button allows them to modify their selected pickup and delivery date or time slot with just one click.
Background validation protection:
The app includes selection expiry validation that prevents abandoned carts and scheduling conflicts. This feature invalidates delivery/pickup selections after a specified time period, requiring customers to make fresh selections.
To configure selection expiry:
- Go to Bird App > Validations
- Scroll down to Cart and Checkout Validation
- Turn on Enable Selection Expiry
- Choose Selection expires in - select your preferred time period
- Configure custom messages under Settings > Text and Languages
Once enabled, selections automatically invalidate after your specified time. Customers are prompted to make a fresh selection when they return to complete their order.
