Shared Order Limits Across Zones

If you split one store into several zones, each zone normally keeps its own daily order limit. Shared order limits make the main location’s daily limit cover the store and all its zones together, so the total for the day can’t go past what your team can handle. It works for both store pickup and local delivery.

Requirements

  1. Bird’s Growth plan or higher
  2. Multi-location turned on in Bird
  3. Zones created with Duplicate location from one main location. See Delivery Zones: Postal Code or Delivery Zones: Distance.
  4. Shared order limits turned on by our support team

Turn on shared order limits

There’s no switch for this in the app.

  1. Contact our support team and ask them to turn on shared order limits for your store.
  2. Set the daily limit on your main location, the one you duplicated to make the zones. See Store Pickup: Order Limits or Local Delivery: Order Limits.

Once it’s on, the calendar updates straight away. You don’t need to wait for a new order.

Shared limit rules

  • Orders placed at the main location and at every active zone are added together for each day.
  • When that total reaches the main location’s Max orders per day (or its date-specific limit), the day becomes unavailable at the main location and at every zone.
  • If an order is cancelled and the total drops below the limit, the day opens again.
  • A zone’s own Max orders per day still applies. It can close that zone earlier, but it can’t raise the shared limit.
  • If the main location has a date-specific limit, that limit becomes the shared limit for that date. A zone’s own date-specific limit still applies to that zone.
  • Store pickup and local delivery each have their own shared limit. Pickup orders don’t count toward the delivery limit, and delivery orders don’t count toward the pickup limit.

Time slot limits are not shared

Each zone’s time slots keep their own Max orders. Only the daily limit is shared.

Example

Your main location, Downtown Store, has a delivery limit of 10 orders on Monday. It has two zones, North Zone and South Zone, with no daily limit of their own.

On Monday, Downtown has 3 orders, North has 4 and South has 3. That’s 10 in total, so Monday is now unavailable for delivery in all three, even though North and South have no limit of their own.

Without shared order limits, North and South would keep taking Monday orders, and only Downtown would close at 10.

Notes

  • If a method is switched off at the main location, or the main location is closed that day, there’s no shared limit for that method. Each zone uses only its own limit.
  • Zones you’ve switched off don’t count.
  • Cancelled orders and draft orders don’t count.
  • Shipping isn’t affected.
