Shipping: Shipping Note

Allow customers to enter shipping notes or special instructions for their order. Collect shipping instructions, handling requests, or other important information.

What Shipping Note Does

What this feature does:

  • Adds a text field in the shipping widget for customer input
  • Allows customers to provide special instructions or requests
  • Saves note content with the order in Shopify
  • Can be made required or optional

What this feature does NOT do:

  • Does not automatically notify carriers of the note
  • Does not validate note content
  • Does not affect shipping rates or availability
  • Does not appear on shipping labels (must be manually added)

Configuration

Step 1: Access Shipping Note Settings

  1. Go to Bird Settings > Shipping
  2. Scroll to Shipping note section

Step 2: Enable Shipping Note

  1. Check Enable shipping note to turn on the feature
  2. (Optional) Check Make shipping note required if you want to force customers to enter text
    • When required: Customers must enter a note before proceeding to checkout
    • When optional: Note field appears but can be left blank

Step 3: Save Configuration

  1. Click Save at the bottom of the page
  2. Test on your store’s cart page to see the note field

How Notes Appear in Orders

After a customer places an order with a shipping note, the note is saved in Shopify.

Viewing Notes in Shopify Admin

  1. Go to Shopify Admin > Orders
  2. Click on the order
  3. Scroll to Additional details or Order attributes section

Using Notes for Fulfillment

The shipping note is visible to:

  • Store staff in Shopify Admin
  • Order management systems that sync with Shopify
  • Any apps or integrations that read order attributes

The shipping note is NOT automatically:

  • Printed on shipping labels (must be manually added)
  • Sent to shipping carriers (must be manually communicated)
