Why did my discount change or disappear at checkout?
A Bird discount belongs to the delivery method the customer chose. If the method, date, address or cart changes, the discount can change too. These are the usual reasons.
The Customer Changed Their Delivery Method
Each discount is tied to pickup, delivery or shipping. If a customer picks pickup and then switches to shipping, the pickup discount comes off and any shipping discount takes its place. This is expected.
The Order No Longer Meets a Condition
Check the discount’s conditions under Bird Settings > Discounts:
- Weekdays, dates or time range are checked against the date and time slot the customer picked. Choosing a different slot can remove the discount.
- Minimum order value is checked against the order subtotal. Removing items can drop it below the minimum.
- Zip codes must match the delivery address.
- Collections: if any discount for that method uses collections, no discount for that method applies to orders with more than 30 different products.
See Discount Conditions for how each one works.
A Bigger or Smaller Discount Won
With Discount application mode set to Maximum possible discount will be applied (the default), only the biggest matching discount applies. In Minimum mode, only the smallest does. Switch to All possible discounts will be applied if you want them to add up. See Discounts Overview.
The Shopify Code Isn’t Valid
For discounts made with Create in Shopify, the code’s own Shopify settings decide whether it works. Check in Shopify Admin > Discounts that it’s active, not expired, and allowed for that customer and cart. See Shopify Discount Codes.
Your Plan Changed
Bird discounts need the Essential plan, and conditions and collections need Growth. After a downgrade, the discounts that need a higher plan stop applying until you upgrade.
The Code Still Shows on the Cart Page
If a customer goes back from checkout to the cart, the discount can still show there. When they return to checkout, it updates to match their delivery method.
