Set up your first shipping or delivery rate

Bird Shipping & Delivery Rates lets you charge for shipping and local delivery by zone, distance, weight, cart total and product. This article takes you from install to your first live rate. The app is free.

Before you start

Your store must use market-based shipping in Shopify. If it doesn’t, the app shows Bird Shipping & Delivery Rates needs market-based shipping when you open it.

1. Select Switch in Shopify.
2. Switch to market-based shipping in Shopify’s Shipping and delivery settings. Your current rates don’t change.
3. Come back to the app and select Check again.

Set up your first rate

1. Install the app from the Shopify App Store and open it from your Shopify admin.
2. Go to Rates.
3. Under Set up your rates, either describe your rates in a sentence and select Draft it, or select Add a zone to set it up yourself.
4. If you add a zone yourself, enter a Name, choose Countries and regions, and select Save. Then select Add a rate, enter a Rate name and a price, and select Save.
5. Select Test checkout, enter an address and a cart, and select Run check to see what customers would get.
6. Select Review & publish in the You have unpublished changes banner.
7. Select Turn on at checkout, then confirm.

Customers see the rate at checkout within a minute.

Keep editing later

Every edit is saved as a draft. Customers keep seeing your live rates until you select Review & publish again. To go back to an earlier version, use History.
