How to Enable Order Notes and Customize Cart Labels in Shopify

Enable order notes on your cart page and customize language labels to enhance customer communication.
Order notes allow customers to add special instructions or requests when placing orders. This guide shows you how to enable this feature and customize the text to match your brand.
Enable Order Notes on Cart Page
Follow these steps to add order note functionality to your cart:

Navigate to your theme settings
- Go to Online Store → Themes
- Click Customize on your active theme

Access cart settings
- Select Cart from the left sidebar
- This opens the cart page customization options

Enable cart notes
- Find the Cart note option
- Toggle it On to activate order notes
- Customers will now see a text field for special instructions
That’s it! Order notes are now active on your cart page.
Customize Order Note Language
Change the default text labels to match your brand voice and language preferences:

Access theme language settings
- Go to Online Store → Themes
- Click Actions → Edit default theme content

Locate cart-related text
- Search for Cart in the language editor
- This reveals all cart-related text strings

Modify order note labels
- Find the Cart note or Order note text
- Change it to your preferred label (e.g., “Special Instructions,” “Delivery Notes”)
- Save your changes
You’re done! Your order note labels now reflect your brand language.
