Why do my pickup and local delivery orders show as "Shipping"?

Once Bird is set up, Shopify labels your pickup and local delivery orders as “Shipping”. This is deliberate, and your customers still see Store Pickup and Local Delivery.

Why Bird uses shipping

Shopify’s native pickup and local delivery can’t do advanced scheduling or rate rules. Bird runs every method through Shopify’s shipping rates, which is what makes these possible:

  • Rates based on conditions like order value, weight, the day or time slot the customer picked, or how soon they want the order, alone or combined. See Rates Overview.
  • One selection for the customer. The pickup address fills in as the shipping address, so customers don’t pick their location twice at checkout.

For the full reason pickup goes through shipping, see Why Do I Need to Disable Built-in Shopify Pickup?

Managing these orders

  1. Use Bird > Orders to see each order’s real method, date, time and location. See Orders: View, Sort & Filter in Bird.
  2. In Shopify admin, the method shows in the order’s Additional Details and in Bird’s block on the order page. Ignore Create shipping label for pickup and local delivery orders.
  3. To mark an order ready, dispatched or complete, use Bird’s Orders page or More actions > Bird: Order Status on the Shopify order. Bird then sends the right email to the customer. See Customer: Pickup & Delivery Notifications.

For Shopify POS, see Shopify POS.
