How to Integrate Bird Pickup & Delivery with Shopify POS

Learn how to integrate Bird Pickup & Delivery with Shopify POS using two dedicated tiles: one for scheduling orders and one for managing orders. Add date and time selection for delivery, pickup (BOPIS, click and collect), and shipping to your in-store orders.

Bird offers two POS tiles for Shopify Point of Sale:

  1. Bird: Order Details (Scheduling Tile) - Schedule pickup times, delivery dates, and fulfillment methods for new orders
  2. Bird: View Orders (Order Management Tile) - View, filter, edit, and update status of all scheduled orders

By the end of this article, you’ll know how to:

Requirements

  • Shopify POS app installed and configured
  • Bird Pickup & Delivery app installed in your store
  • Admin access to your Shopify store

How It Works

Bird Pickup & Delivery integrates with Shopify POS to enable scheduling for all fulfillment types:

  • Two Dedicated POS Tiles: Use the Scheduling Tile for new orders and the Order Management Tile to handle existing orders
  • Automatic Sync: All order details created in POS automatically appear in Shopify admin
  • Real-time Updates: Changes made in POS are reflected immediately in Shopify
  • Notification Integration: Once configured, customer notifications automatically include POS-scheduled details

Add Bird POS Tiles

Add the Scheduling Tile (Order Details)

Add the Bird Scheduling Tile to enable date and time scheduling for new orders.

  1. Open Shopify POS on your device
  2. Tap Add Tile > App > Bird Pickup Delivery
  3. Select Bird: Order Details (POS UI extension)
  4. Tap Save

Add the Order Management Tile (View Orders)

Add the Bird Order Management Tile to view, filter, and manage all scheduled orders.

  1. Tap Add Tile > App > Bird Pickup Delivery
  2. Select Bird: View Orders (POS UI extension)
  3. Tap Save

New Order Scheduling (Scheduling Tile)

Use the Bird Scheduling Tile to schedule delivery dates, pickup times, and shipping details for new customer orders.

Configure Order Details

Configure delivery, pickup, or shipping details for customer orders during checkout.

  1. Open the Bird Order Details tile in your POS interface
  2. Select your delivery or pickup method for the order:
    • Shipping: For standard shipping orders
    • Delivery: For local delivery orders
    • Pick Up: For customer pickup orders
  3. Configure order details as needed:
    • Location: Choose your fulfillment location (required for Delivery/Pickup orders)
    • Date: Select the preferred delivery/pickup date
    • Start Time: Choose the preferred time slot start
    • End Time: Choose the end time (creates a time range)

Order Management (Order Management Tile)

Use the Bird Order Management Tile to view, manage, and update all existing scheduled orders.

Access Order Management

View and manage all scheduled orders from your POS interface.

  1. Open the Bird View Orders tile in your POS interface
  2. The system displays a comprehensive list of orders filtered by default to your current POS location
  3. Search for specific orders using the search functionality
  4. Browse through orders to find the one you need to manage

Note: The location filter automatically applies to your physical POS location by default. You can remove or change this filter if you need to view orders from other locations.

View Order Details

Access detailed information about any scheduled order.

  1. Click on any order from the list
  2. The order details screen displays:
    • Order number and customer information
    • Scheduled date and time
    • Delivery method (Shipping/Delivery/Pickup)
    • Assigned location
    • Delivery notes (if any)
    • Order status

Update Order Status

Update the order status as you fulfill each order.

  1. Open the order details for the order you want to manage
  2. Click the appropriate status button (Mark as Ready, Mark as Dispatched, or Mark as Complete)
  3. The order status updates automatically in both POS and Shopify admin
  4. Customer notifications are sent based on your configured settings

Edit Order Details

Modify order details after they’ve been created.

  1. Open the order details for the order you want to edit
  2. Click “Edit” to access the editing interface
  3. Modify any of the following properties:
    • Delivery Method: Change between Shipping, Delivery, or Pickup
    • Location: Update the fulfillment location
    • Delivery Date: Change the scheduled date
    • Start Time: Modify the time slot start
    • End Time: Adjust the time slot end
    • Delivery Note: Update or add special instructions
  4. Save your changes - updates are reflected immediately in both POS and Shopify

Changes update immediately across all systems.

Filter and Sort Orders

Manage multiple orders efficiently using filtering and sorting options.

The order list view provides several management tools:

Filtering Options

  • Date Filter: Filter orders by specific date ranges
  • Location Filter: Show orders for specific fulfillment locations
  • Delivery Method Filter: Filter by Shipping, Delivery, or Pickup
  • Order State Filter: Filter by order status (Pending, Dispatched, etc.)
  • Show Draft Orders: Toggle to view draft orders in the orders list

Sorting Options

  • Sort by Created At: View orders in the order they were created
  • Sort by Delivery Date: Organize orders by their scheduled delivery date

Troubleshooting

If Bird tiles are not loading, showing a permissions screen, or displaying an error:

  1. Ensure the Shopify POS app and your device OS are updated to the latest version
  2. Check staff permissions: Shopify Admin > Settings > Users and permissions > [Staff member] > Point of Sale — enable POS access and assign a role
  3. Delete and re-add the Bird tiles from your POS home screen
  4. Close and reopen the Shopify POS app

Permissions are managed in Shopify Admin, not in the Bird app. Only store owners or admins can update staff permissions.
