How do I set up different delivery rates based on postal codes, distance, or zones?

Yes. On Shopify, Bird lets you charge local delivery fees by zip/postal code, by distance from your store (radius or driving distance), or by delivery zone.

Each option suits a different kind of delivery area, so pick the one that matches how you draw your boundaries.

Rates by postal code

Create a delivery zone for each area by duplicating your store location in Bird and giving each zone its own postal codes. Then, in the Bird app, go to Rates and in the Delivery section select I have different rates for different store locations or delivery zones. Add rates for each zone.

Bird shows the customer the rate for the zone that matches their postal code. If your postal code matching is set to Partial postal code match, you can enter 11* to cover every code that starts with 11. See Postal Code Validation.

For the full setup, see Delivery Zones: Postal Code.

Rates by distance

Set a delivery radius or driving distance for each zone and give each one its own rate, for example $5 within 5 km and $10 within 10 km. Bird matches the customer’s address to the right zone. See Delivery Zones: Distance or Driving Distance-Based Delivery Zones.

Two suburbs with one postal code

Postal codes must be unique per zone, so if two suburbs share a code but need different rates, use radius or driving-distance zones instead.

Add more conditions to a zone’s rates

Each zone’s rates can also depend on:

  • Price: minimum and maximum order value
  • Weight: order weight in your Weight format unit (grams by default)
  • Selected day: different rates for weekdays and weekends
  • Product: specific SKUs
  • Urgency: a premium for same-day delivery
  • Time: the time slot the customer picks
  • Date: seasonal or promotional dates

See Delivery Rates and Rates Overview.

You can also set a minimum order value for each zone.

Use Shopify’s local delivery rates instead

If you’d rather keep your local delivery rates in Shopify, select Run local delivery rates through Shopify in the Delivery section of the Rates page. See Shopify Rates for Local Delivery.
