How to Set Up Discounts Specific to Delivery Methods and Location

Bird Pickup & Delivery lets you automatically apply discounts at checkout based on the delivery method a customer selects. You can choose between two discount sources: Shopify Discounts (link an existing Shopify discount code) or Bird Discounts (create a discount directly in the Bird app with percentage or fixed amount off the order total).

Before You Start

When you first open the Discount settings page, Bird may ask you to approve additional data access permissions. Click Update to grant the app permission to manage discounts on your behalf.

How to Access Discount Settings

Open your Bird App dashboard
Go to Settings (under the Advance section)
Click Discounts

Option 1: Create a Bird Discount

Use this option to create a discount directly in Bird without needing to set up anything in Shopify first. Bird discounts give you more control with location-based targeting.

On the Discount settings page, click Add
Under Discount source, select Create in Bird
Select the Delivery method (Pick Up, Local Delivery, or Shipping)
Select the Location (choose a specific store location or All Locations)
Choose the Discount type: Percentage (%) or Fixed amount ($)
Enter the Value (e.g., 10 for 10% off or $10 off)
Click Create discount

The discount will be automatically applied at checkout when a customer selects the matching delivery method and location.

Option 2: Create a Shopify Discount

Use this option if you already have a discount code set up in Shopify and want Bird to apply it automatically when a customer selects a specific delivery method.

On the Discount settings page, click Add
Under Discount source, select Create in Shopify
Select the Delivery method (Pick Up, Local Delivery, or Shipping)
Enter the Discount code — this must match an active discount code in your Shopify Admin
Click Save discount code

ℹ️

To create a discount code in Shopify, go to Shopify Admin → Discounts and create a new discount with the conditions and value you want. Copy the exact code name and paste it in the Bird app.

Important Notes

Only one discount can be active per delivery method per location.
Shopify Discounts require the discount code to be active and valid in Shopify for it to apply.
Bird Discounts are managed entirely within the Bird app — no Shopify discount setup needed.

Limitations

If a customer receives a discount at checkout and then goes back to the cart page, the discount code will still appear as applied on the cart. However, when the customer proceeds to checkout again and selects a different delivery method, the discount will automatically update to match the newly selected method.
